FAQ

What should I wear?

We do prefer that you wear something like bike shorts. This will help if we need to perform any extensive stretching. It is also perfectly fine to wear whatever makes you comfortable.

How soon after a massage is it okay to exercise?

As a rule of thumb: wait 8 hours before any strenuous workouts. In general, It is a very subjective thing. The main concern here is something we’re all familiar with, DOMS. Delayed onset muscle soreness tends to kick in about 8 hours after massage, as well as exercise. Some clients can receive a deep tissue session and feel no soreness at all. Others could feel some lingering soreness from a massage that would kick in within 8-48 hours. Coupled with this is the fact that we’ve just spent so long relaxing your muscles and stretching them out. Research shows that extensive stretching before exercise can increase the chances of injury.

You’ll want to give your muscles ample time to recover from our work, so that you can perform your best.

Is it normal to feel sore after a massage?

Yes, it is common to feel some soreness after a massage session. This is usually in the areas worked, but could refer to other areas. This soreness will generally follow the pattern of DOMS:

  1. Onset is within 8-48 hours

  2. The first day is mild soreness

  3. The second day is the worst of it

  4. The third day feels like the first day

  5. The fourth day there is no soreness.

How often should I get massage?

This is one of the most common questions we get here. My best results for injury recovery have come from shorter, more frequent sessions. This would be two to three 30-minute sessions per week. This level of frequency should be maintained for about eight weeks.

However, this is another very subjective guideline. Some people have the best results from bi-weekly, monthly, semi-monthly, or even annual sessions. Ideally, you would see how you feel after your first session and then gauge the frequency from there.

How can I maximize the effects of my session?

Don’t overthink it.

  1. You’ll want to drink a lot of water; if you normally drink a gallon per day, drink 1.5 gallons that day.

  2. Take it easy. You won’t waste all of our work by working out, but it’s not ideal and you could be more prone to injury.

  3. Don’t drink alcohol that day, before or after your appointment. This kind of soft tissue therapy greatly increases circulation. This will most definitely increase the effects of alcohol.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not have an insurance biller on staff. There are some insurance companies that will reimburse for massage services, and some HSAs or FSAs will accept the charge. You would need to contact your insurance company first to check in with them about the reimbursement of your sessions.

Is there parking available?

There are several paid lots in the area, but we do not validate with any of them. This is currently being explored (stay tuned for more information about this). There is ample street parking available, but be careful with the regulations on the parking signs. Some blocks allow parking only for an hour or two at a time, at specific times of the day, on specific days.
